The 2020 Frey Pinot Noir Rotweine from Rheinhessen, Germany, is a wine produced by Weingut Frey, a family-owned, certified organic winery located in Ober-Flörsheim within the Rheinhessen region. The family has been cultivating grapes since the 18th century, with the current generation, brothers Philipp and Christopher Frey and their father Stefan, managing 23 hectares of vineyards. This Pinot Noir is made from 100% organic grapes grown in the village of Ober-Flörsheim, the highest elevated municipality in south-western Rheinhessen. The grapes are grown on a variety of soil types, including limestone, loess-loam, and clayey limestone marl, which contribute to the wine's character. The wine spends 18 months in French oak. Notes of ripe red and black cherry, strawberry, leather, tobacco, chocolate, and spice are present, with a touch of earthiness. There are also accents of black cherry, cedar, earth, and mocha. This is an elegant, medium-bodied wine with a soft tannic structure and fine, smooth tannins. It is described as easy-drinking. The wine has a long finish with a touch of spritz.
